The aim of the course is to increase the participant’s understanding of the significance and impact of the metabolism of small molecules in the discovery and development process of drugs. A brief introduction to enzymology will continue into an overview of in silico, in vitro and in vivo approaches. The different in vitro test systems, theirr properties, best practice, use and relevance will be presented and discussed. The course will also describe how metabolism characteristics have to be further investigated to reveal potential safety issues and drug interactions as well as discuss the importance of understanding their impact. Studies performed to confirm that metabolites formed in humans are safe, will be particularly emphasized.
Who should attend
This course will be of value to anyone working in drug discovery and development within academy, industry, contract research organizations as well as within regulatory authorities. Focus will be on drug discovery and drug development. However, anyone working in the environmental and agrochemical fields will be benefited of the topics of the course.
Main Topics
✚✚What is the role and impact of drug metabolism science throughout drug discovery and development?
✚✚ What type of metabolism studies are performed in early discovery phases prior to selection of a candidate drug, in contrast to studies supporting submission to regulatory authorities?
✚✚ What are the goals and studies addressing such activities?
✚✚ What are recommendations and what are the regulatory requirements?
A preliminary program will be published within short.
